Payout creation

Learn about the different types of payout that you can create.

When you use the /v3/payouts endpoint, you can specify one of three values for the type parameter:

  • payment_source
  • external_account
  • business_account

These correspond to the three types of payout below.

Payouts to an account that paid in

This is also known as a closed-loop payout. This type of payout is made back to a payment source. In other words, the account that the original pay-in came from.

Payouts to an external account

This is also known as an open-loop payout. This type of payout is made to bank details, such as SCAN or IBAN.

When you make a payout to an external account, it's important that you include certain user details to ensure the payout is legitimate.
